Your 5 steps to a full licence
The path is the same in every state. Only the regulator and the forms change, and we handle those for the state where you live.
TRA skills assessment
We prepare your application. A positive outcome gives you an OTSR.
Provisional licence or permit
With your OTSR, you apply to your state regulator so you can work, and earn, under supervision in your field.
Supervised work
You work the supervised hours you need to enrol in gap training. How long it takes depends on your work.
Gap training
A condensed short course to learn Australian safety regulations and standards, with a final exam and outcome. Not a full apprenticeship.
Certificate and full licence
You receive your Australian Certificate and apply for your unrestricted state licence. We stay with you until it is issued.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get my licence?
It depends on your trade and on how quickly you build up your supervised work hours. To enrol in gap training, electricians need around 1,000 hours of supervised work and plumbers around 500 hours.
Can I work while I build up my hours?
Yes, under supervision, with the permit or provisional licence your state issues. We check what applies to you.
Do I have to redo my trade in Australia?
No. Gap training is a condensed short course on Australian safety regulations and standards, with a final exam. It is not a full apprenticeship.
Do I need a licence in every state?
Electrical and plumbing licences are issued by each state. The refrigerant handling licence is national. If you move, we check how your licence is recognised in your new state.
I'm not an electrician, plumber or air-con mechanic. Is this for me?
Licensing is for licensed trades. For other trades, see our skills assessment and RPL pages.
